PLANNING AND PERMITS

PLANNING AND PERMITS

Proper planning will save you time and money during actual construction. CDC guides you through the upfront planning process so you can take into account all the steps involved in building your custom home.

PERMITS & LAND USE IN THE GTA

Before you begin planning, learn about your property’s zoning. This will determine what you can build on your property. For example, the City of Mississauga’s Zoning By-Law outlines what uses are permitted, how far a structure must be from the lot lines, and the amount of parking required. A permit is usually needed if you are building and renovating, making interior alterations to an existing building, putting up a sign, or opening a business in a new location.
CDC takes care of obtaining proper permits and managing the entire planning process. Some clients work with a preferred architecture firm, but wish to engage a professional Project Management team to carry out the process. We can be hired to do this in addition to complete planning services. Proper planning means:

  • Choosing the right design for your site
  • Making important decisions before construction begins
  • Selecting the right building materials
  • Accurately estimating structural material costs
  • Preparing a complete and realistic budget
  • Hiring quality builders based on ability
  • Using proper construction contracts
